Mesa honors it heritage — the city was founded by Latter-day Saint pioneers in the 19th century — in its grandest attraction, the Mesa Arizona Temple. The Mesa Arizona Temple is the seventh operating temple of the Church of the Latter-day Saints, or, more commonly known, Mormons. The temple grounds are open to the public to enjoy the expansive building and well-manicured gardens. Also on site is a visitor’s center filled with educational murals, videos, and displays. A replica of Bertel Thorvaldsen’s famous statue The Christus is also on the premises. The Mesa Arizona Temple is staffed by Mormon missionaries, and at Christmas, there is a light display and nativity scene, while at Easter, there’s the annual Mesa Arizona Easter Pageant Jesus the Christ.
 
Other great historical attractions of the area are the Mesa Historical Museum, the Arizona Museum of Natural History, and the HoHoKam Park, the old home of the local minor league baseball team and where the Chicago Cubs now practice during spring training. The Mesa Arts Center has four different venues that host many cultural events throughout the year, ranging from music and dance to theatre and comedy.
 
During the heat of Arizona summers, which tend to have ninety degree temperatures, a great place to visit in the Golfland and Sunsplash water park. Also, to beat the heat, there is tons of shopping in the area. The Superstition Springs Center is a great mall in the area that has every popular department store, an amphitheatre, and an outdoor fountain if you're in need of a little down-time.
