El Salvador may not have had a reputation as a premier vacation rental destination in the past, but all that is changing due to the Central American country’s beautiful scenery, temperate weather, and unique cultural sites. An El Salvador vacation can be just as exciting as and a lot less crowded than a vacation rental at a more "typical" vacation rental destination. El Salvador is quickly becoming a "go-to" destination for surfing enthusiasts. All of the beaches in the La Libertad area are excellent for surfing and El Sunzal Beach has recently been voted one of the Top Ten surfing beaches in the entire world! For those who like to keep their feet on land, an El Salvador vacation still has plenty of land-based things to do. For example, go see Lake Ilopango! This crater lake is the largest lake in the country and dates back to the 5th century A.D. when the lake’s caldera formed during a major volcanic eruption. To visit this scenic lake, just head straight east from the capital city of San Salvador. An El Salvador vacation rental can also mean some visits to some stunning archaeological ruins. This area was home to the ancient Mayan culture and El Salvador is blessed with some absolutely amazing remains of Mayan cities. Perhaps the most important of these sites is Joya De Ceren. Named a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1993, Joya De Ceren was a Mayan village that was buried by the lava eruption of a nearby volcano, Loma Caldera, sometime around 600 A.D. The city was petrified and was accidentally discovered in 1976. This catastrophe ended up preserving the homes and other buildings in the city and now gives us a glimpse into the Mayan way of life. Finally, visit El Imposible during your El Salvador vacation rental. El Imposible is a tropical mountain forest that was declared a national park of El Salvador back in 1989. El Imposible is named so because of the dangerous gorge that past coffee growers had to traverse in order to transport their crops – many men and pack mules fell to their death into this gorge. Now, however, plenty of bridges exist to facilitate those who wish to cross the gorge. A plaque near the gorge reads "May 1968 – it’s no longer impossible" in memory of those who lost their lives. Nowadays, visitors can easily make their way across the park and see some of the wildlife who make their home there – like the pumas, wild boar, king hawks, and black-crested eagles. So maybe your friends will be a little surprised when you mention that you’d like to take an El Salvador vacation rental. But, after you go and bring back gorgeous pictures and fabulous stories, they’ll be begging you to take them with you next time you go! |
