Though you may want to say the city name phonetically, to blend in with the locals, make sure you say Prescott so it rhymes with biscuit. Some of the city’s locals inhabit the Yavapai-Prescott Indian Tribe, a reservation located partially within the city limits. The Yavapai-Prescott Indian Tribe is the home of shopping centers, two casinos, the annual World’s Largest Gingerbread Village, and tons of history. The city has an annual Navajo Rug Auction to draw attention to the Native American culture . Other great cultural attractions of the city are its many Victorian style homes . The city actually has 525 buildings on the National Register of Historic Places. Also on this list is the famous Whiskey Row. An old red-light district, Whiskey Row was marred by fire ages ago, but still stands to this day as part of Prescott’s history. Another great building attraction is the First Territorial Capital and Governor’s, which is now part of the Sharlot Hall Museum. The Sharlot Hall Museum is a living history museum that strives to preserve the history and folklore of the area. Part of the history of the area is that it hosts the World’s Oldest Rodeo. It has been running since 1888. Other great yearly attractions are the Prescott Bluegrass Festival, usually held at the end of June, the Arizona Cowboy Poet’s Gathering, a poetry and music festival, and the Prescott Film Festival , which features independent and artsy films during the summer months. Even though they say their name in an odd way, Prescott is still worth a visit! Prescott Area Map for Your Vacation Planning |
