Escalante Vacation Rentals and Lodging
Located on the Escalante River is the ranching town of Escalante, Utah. With under one thousand residents, Escalante really does fulfill its small town reputation, but with such a population, the untouched terrain can be truly enjoyed in the area. In all directions, with views unscathed by buildings and towers, are natural wonders. To the north of Escalante is the Aquarius Plateau. The Aquarius Plateau is one of the highest in Utah and surrounded by forests of aspen, spruce, and fir. The area is great for hiking and biking as it leads to the grand sight to the south of Escalante, the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. The 1.7 million acre national monument is made up of plateaus, sandstone canyons, and other rock formations that form four steps, hence the name the grand staircase. Existence of Triassic dinosaurs is very obvious in the cliffs of the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, and the rest of the city if known for its collection of dinosaur bones. The Escalante Petrified Forest State Park was a huge site for dinosaur bones, and it also has a large collection of petrified wood. The Escalante Petrified Forest State Park, along with its history and colorful mineralized wood, also provides great biking, hiking, camping, and fishing. In the laid-back city of Escalante, there are few amenities besides a grocery store and a couple shops and restaurants, but its recreational and outdoor activities and scenery more than make up for it. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
