As the home of Arkansas State University, Jonesboro, Arkansas is guaranteed to have a great nightlife, but be forewarned that many of the bars in the area have membership fees because the county is dry, and, in turn, these restaurants and bars have to have special licenses to serve alcohol. But there is a great plus side to Jonesboro considering themselves a very safe city when it comes to drinking: in many of the local bars they offer free soft drinks to any person considered the designated driver!
 
Having Arkansas State University in this city also adds a great cultural aspect through the students’ work and contributions. The Arkansas State University campus has a student union art gallery, and interestingly, a place on campus named the  Free Expression Area.  This area is a place that students are free to use and congregate for speeches and demonstrations.
 
Canoeing, like in other parts of Arkansas, is a major sport supported in Jonesboro. A great place to head while in Jonesboro to canoe is the Lake Charles State Park. As one of Arkansas’ many state parks, Lake Charles State Park overlooks the Ozark Mountains and offers a lot to water and nature lovers.
