Located on the popular and beautiful Amelia Island, Fernandina Beach is a popular beach vacation destination. The white sand and blue Atlantic Ocean of Florida makes Fernandina Beach one of the most inviting beaches in the northern portion of the state. Beach kayaking, parasailing, sunbathing, and beach cruising are all popular activities.
 
For a break from the sand, you can also enjoy kayaking and bird-watching in the Florida marshes nearby. Tons of history and heritage rest on the shores of Fernandina Beach. At one point, the beach was referred to as the Isle of Eight Flags because it flew eight different flags - one representing Great Britain, France, Mexico, Florida, the Confederacy, the Patriots of Amelia Island, and two representing Spain. The history of the island can be learned by visiting the Amelia Island Museum of History, the Fernandina Beach lighthouse, or by taking one of the many historical tours on the island by horse-drawn carriage or boat.
 
The city's heritage is also well learned and well remembered in the Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival. The Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival is the most popular event in Fernandina Beach. The first weekend in May always brings a great crowd to the shores to enjoy great food, arts and crafts, a pirate parade, and a putt putt golf tournament. The festival is loved by children visiting the island. Other festivals held on Amelia Island to be enjoyed while visiting Fernandina Beach are the Amelia Island Film Festival in February, the Amelia Island Jazz Festival in October, and the Amelia Island Concurs d'Elegance in March.
