Mountain Home was ranked in the top 20 United States cities for sportsmen by Outdoor Life magazine. The nature and climate of Mountain Home alone probably helped to land it on this list. Located near many of the Arkansas waterways and in the Ozark Mountains, Mountain Home is frequented by fisherman, hunters, and boaters all year.
 
Mountain Home has four distinct seasons, which gives its outdoors a different and new appeal throughout the year. The hunting seasons go hand in hand with the weather seasons. Hunters visit Mountain Home for the sport of tracking black bears, deer, elk, turkeys, and waterfowls.
 
Its great hunting is one of the reasons that Mountain Home is counted as a great place to retire, but this is also because of the great fishing, many resorts, and golfing opportunities. Its most popular golf course is the Big Creek Golf Course which is a 5-star course that is considered the best in Arkansas. The course runs over about 200 acres of land that includes 5 bodies of water and is surrounded by the Ozark Mountains. The surrounding terrain makes the course challenging yet pleasant. Big Creek is also a Country Club where many retreat to retire and enjoy life.
 
A two-year campus of Arkansas State University is located in Mountain Home, and the most interesting fact about its campus is that the architecture was modeled after that of the University of Virginia. The city also has a farmer’s market, a historic downtown square district, and an annual county fair.
