Fort Lauderdale vacation rental – paradise in the city

We’ve Scene It! – Bungalow Six in Fort Lauderdale

Bungalow Six

Mike, Amy, Billy and Franco in the Bungalow Six oasis

Right in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the sometimes very crowded Fort Lauderdale, Mike and I discovered a quiet little slice of paradise called Bungalow Six. Bungalow Six is actually located in Wilton Manors – also known as “The Island City” since it is literally located on a little island right in the middle of the mainland. It’s only two square miles in area but it somehow manages to achieve the feeling that you are far, far away from the noisy crowds and traffic of the nearby Fort Lauderdale beaches. And Billy and Franco, the owners of Bungalow Six, make you feel like you are at your own private resort with their outstanding hospitality.

When you first arrive at Bungalow Six, you’ll most likely look around and wonder, “Aren’t I in a neighborhood?” Yep, you are. And even if that’s not exactly what you had in mind when you began looking for Fort Lauderdale vacation rentals by owner, you will quickly realize that this is exactly what you were looking for…you just never knew it. The first thing we noticed when we pulled in the driveway (besides the gorgeous landscaping which, we later found, was just a tease of what was to come) was a sign proclaiming that Bungalow Six is a certified wildlife habitat – certified by the National Wildlife Federation. Being a huge animal lover, I was pretty excited about that sign. I would have loved to have seen wild ponies and giraffes wandering around in the backyard, but I was still pretty excited to see all the butterflies and birds that the website promised. (More on that later)

Once Billy took us inside, Mike and I looked around at the gorgeous, cozy living room and kitchen area…and then asked, “Okay, where are our rooms?” Billy informed us that we were standing in them. We seriously thought that we were in their house and we just had a little cottage waiting for us out back. Nope, not so much. We had the entire house to ourselves! Two bedrooms, one bathroom, a living room (with comfy, comfy couches and a big screen TV!), and a full kitchen. (Side note: Bungalow Six also offers a one bedroom cottage but we were unable to tour it as it was occupied) Billy and Franco’s house was next door – so that they could easily be there for whatever we needed, they told us.

The big moment came (you know, the moment where you say “Wow, insert name of spouse/favorite food/gorgeous resort here, where have you been all my life?!”) once we stepped out the back door. Billy and Franco have created a true paradise in their backyard. There is a heated, saltwater pool, a hot tub, numerous sitting areas, and Franco’s newest creation – an outdoor bathroom. And all of this is surrounded by the most amazing foliage and flowers that you’ve ever seen. And if you’re curious about what any of it actually is, Billy and Franco can spout off the names of each and every plant, along with little tips on how to grow and care for them. Needless to say, they had quite the conversation with Mike, the son of an avocado farmer. I think new things were learned on both sides during that conversation.

Billy and Franco were the most amazing hosts and the entire property was immaculate. Franco even apologized for not ironing our sheets before our arrival! You can just feel the pride and joy that they have in their resort, and you can’t help but let it rub off on you a little bit.
As we sat outside and had our morning coffee, snacking on the delicious corn muffins that Franco brought over for us, a blue jay landed in the tree less than four feet from us and said hello. A butterfly circled me several times, as if to say, “Don’t go!” Trust me, little butterfly, we definitely didn’t want to!
