South Carolina’s Hilton Head Island is much more than just an amazing destination for a memorable family vacation. Fabulous shopping, beautiful beaches and mouth-watering Hilton Head Island restaurants make this lovely Low Country enclave a top pick for a girls’ getaway. But, did you know that Hilton Head Island is also an incredibly popular spot for a men’s weekend away?

That’s right, for your next guys trip, throw your nine iron in the trunk, toss a couple of collared shirts in a bag and head on down to South Carolina for a good old golf vacation, Hilton Head style. But this won’t be your run of the mill golf outing. Offering more than 40 courses ranging from easy-peasy to par is not an option (except for the gifted few), the first round will only whet your appetite for more.

And we’re not the only ones who have discovered that Hilton Head and golf go together like peanut butter and jelly. Golf Digest has ranked Hilton Head tenth on their “World’s Best Golf Resorts” list and named the Harbour Town Golf Links in SeaPines Resort as one of the top 20 courses in the United States. Golf Weekly magazine included the Harbour Town Golf Links on its top 20 U.S. courses as well. Not to mention a little thing like the PGA tournament held in Hilton Head each Spring.

Every April, the professional golf world descends on the area as Hilton Head Harbour Town Golf Links plays host to the Verizon Heritage PGA tour tournament. This year’s tourney was held April 12th – 18th, and Jim Furyk took home the lion’s share of the $5.7 million purse, despite his rather original swing technique.

Harbour Town is just one of the three breathtaking courses on the SeaPines property. Ocean Course is a classic course that was recently made new again through extensive renovations by Mark McCumber. As the name indicates, Ocean Course is the place to play if you enjoy taking in sweeping ocean views as you hunt balls in the rough. Heron Point is the newest addition to the SeaPines family of courses. Recently created by design mastermind Pete Dye, this prestigious track is in a class by itself.

Whether you’re staying in SeaPines or in one of the home rentals Hilton Head elsewhere on the island, you’re sure to be in close proximity to at least one of the 40 courses in the area. With so many choice, Hilton Head tee times are easy to come by and if you forget your clubs or gear, plenty of pro shops offer Hilton Head golf rentals. Though Southern Living magazine recently named Hilton Head as the #1 destination for Memorial Day weekend, golf vacations are a perfect excuse to visit Hilton Head throughout the year.
